QUESTIONS & RESPONSES
Regarding Demons
♦ What is the agenda of demons and how do we handle demonic encounters?
On June 14, 2013, we received the following comment and inquiry:
“Demons are one of the [Governing Body’s] reality/speciality, [including] apostates. But if one would encounter such a real demon incident, what is your advice in such a demonstration? I have friends that have had serious encounters over the years. What are their (demon’s) agenda in your opinion?”
To the author, thank you for your email. Frankly, we do not know what is in the mind of demons, though we are certain their agenda is not to our advantage. We do not give them time or attention. It seems that only those who are fixated on demons and wicked spirits find themselves with this problem. In fact, the attention given to demons is really man being enticed by his own animalistic desires.
It distresses us that so many people concern themselves with demonic forces rather than the sovereignty, power and authority of Christ Jesus and his mighty angelic forces. Many are quick to label any spiritual activity as demonic, but they lack faith in the overwhelming angelic activity. But even if one believes that a third of the entire angelic host rebelled, that leaves a whopping two-thirds of faithful angels! Hence, our universe is overwhelmingly friendly and positive and looking out for man’s advantage:
“Now we know that God makes all his works cooperate together for the good of those who love God, those who are the ones called according to his purpose.” – Romans 8:28
Brother, do you not realize that the demons are basically impotent since the resurrection of Christ Jesus? Can you not see that the only power they could wield over man is illusory? All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Jesus. (Matthew 28:18) That includes authority over demons. We need only oppose the devil and he will flee from us. (James 4:7) Those unfortunate enough to have encounters with demons might want to examine their faith. The faith in one’s sonship with God conquers the world, including demons.
“[E]verything that has been born from God conquers the world. And this is the conquest that has conquered the world, our faith.” – 1 John 5:4
Instead of concerning yourself with the agenda of demons, focus on the agenda of the Father and His Christ. As Paul wrote:
“If, however, you were raised up with the Christ, go on seeking the things above, where the Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Keep your minds fixed on the things above, not on the things upon the earth.” – Colossians 3:1-2
Know that the Father’s universe is on our side! His sons cannot be captured or enslaved by demons:
“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” – 2 Corinthians 3:17 (RSV)
The ‘angels of the congregations’ are with us, seeking an opportunity to assist us in our journey. (Revelation 1:20-3:22) The Spirit of the Father dwells within us. (1 Corinthians 3:16) The Spirit of Truth of the son has been poured out on all flesh. (Acts 2:1-4) Holy Spirit pervades our universe. (Genesis 1:2) Hence, Satan and his demons do not have a chance with those who have a living faith.
And as mankind opens up to the Father’s vast spiritual influences without fear, more and more of us will experience these positive and uplifting encounters. The entire spiritual organization of the Father is waiting to serve mankind. Give an angel a job!
♦ What does one do if he thinks he is being tormented by a spirit entity?
On September 30, 2018, we received the following email:
I’ve got a question that has been bothering me for some time now. What does one do if he thinks he is being tormented by a spirit entity? It's unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. I feel a presence and it feels as though I am being watched. I’ve prayed whenever it starts to happen, but it continues to happen. Any insightful suggestions?
To the author, thank you for your email and for allowing us to publish it for the benefit of others who might have a similar question. We are not sure what is happening with you, but there are a few things we can share.
The only thing a wicked spirit can do to you is frighten you. They cannot enter your body, nor can they physically harm you. Jesus conquered and so those who are in union with Jesus are protected from things like that.
If you believe you are being tormented, we suggest that first you pray to the Father in the name of Jesus to give you courage and strength. You can also ask Jesus directly to send his angels to protect you. And you can vocally tell the spirit to leave, and that you do not want them there.
If you feel a need to speak out loud, be calm but be firm. As a son of God, you, too, are a conqueror. They have no power over you. Interestingly, wicked spirits cannot stand in the light of the sons of God. So let your light shine!
Finally, Brother, we suggest that you accept who you are, a son of the most powerful entity in the universe, and a brother to the Sovereign of our world, Christ Jesus. This type of confidence, courage and firmness should rid you of any such incidents.
We hope this helps, and we wish you the very best.
